Extruded Bearing Plates & Extruded Washers

Extruded Bearing Plates have a center hole that is smooth and cylindrical versus a conventional “pierced hole” that has sharp cutting edges.
Benefits of the extruded plate include:
  1. No sharp edges to score and damage body of bolt during installation and loading
  2. Slight dome form is very stiff until specified yield load is reached
  3. Dome provides visual load indication to miners that bolt has reached "action" point
  4. Engineered yield rate held within +/- 1500 lbs.                                                                                          (ASTM specs just require a min. spec – example: grade 2 ≥ 20,000 lbs.)
  5. Extruded form adds strength allowing for reduced metal thickness
  6. Off-set axis loading will yield dome on one side instead of bending bolt

EXTRUDED WASHERS

Extruded Washers are slightly beveled and have a center hole that is smooth and cylindrical versus the standard “pierced” center hole that has the sharp cutting edge inherent from the stamping process.
Benefits of Extruded Washer include:
  1. No sharp edges to score and damage body of bolt during installation and loading
  2. Reduces flange and bolt head bending & cracking in off-axis loading
  3. Increases the load bearing capability of the system

Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer Rebar [GFRP]

Made with Pride in the USA by Hughes Brothers, Inc.
(G)lass (F)iber (R)einforced (P)olymers Rebar products fiberglass members locked into a matrix of E-glass.
These tension members are an excellent alternative to steel under the following conditions:
  • need for cutability (longwall block rib bolts)
  • use in non-conductive required environments
  • use in highly corrosive environments

FIBERGLASS TENDONS

This is a fiberglass rebar with steel female threaded couplers attached to one or both ends. Unlike the rib bolt products, the steel couplers allow the full bar strength to be achieved.

LOAD INDICATING BOLTS

Made with Pride in the USA by Stress Indicators, Inc.
Picture
SmartBolts® load indicating bolts incorporate a small, color-changing mircoindicator in  the head of the bolt.  The indicator will change color in response to changes in the stress or strain of the bolt.
CFR30 part 75 requires that tensionable bolts be checked for proper installed tension and monitored over the next 24 hrs. for loss or increase in tension.

Borehole video inspection is a direct method of visual inspection of the geology and  structure within the length of a test borehole.  It is used to:
  1. Assist in identifying the condition of the immediate roof
  2. Assist in specifying the proper support method(s)
  3. Assist in evaluating the performance of the support method(s)

ROOF SEPARATION INSTRUMENTS

Picture
Roof separation instruments (extensometers) are used to monitor differential movement of roof, pillar, or floor horizons.  They are customized to meet the mine’s needs for type of read-out or indication. They include “flagging” devices to notify anyone within site of the instrument that a pre-determined amount of movement has occurred as well as “data” devices that indicate movement in units of 0.001”. These devices can also be fitted with potentiometers for remote readings using a standard ohm or multi-meter. The maximum   number of horizons that can be monitored is (3). The anchor systems include ¼” aluminum rods (user specified section lengths) and a spring steel anchor sized for the specific diameter hole being used.

ROOM CONVERGENCE INSTRUMENTS

Picture
These instruments are used to monitor the total closure between roof and floor.  Used in conjunction with extensometers, they can be used to calculate the amount of pillar squeeze within a localized area. They are similar in design to the extensometers, but they are mounted onto a “pogo-stick” assembly.  They can be permanently affixed to one location or they can be used as the measuring device for multiple pre-established locations.
